This is more to my liking than the lake painting. Have now done 5 in the still life series. Trying to implement some of the Richard Schmid principles, but so much to remember--values, edges, drawing, focus on and on. I guess if it were easy we wouldn't be so fascinated by it!
Can't say this is one of my favorites. Too pinky and blue with no punch from a compliment but evening views are sometimes like that because the pink light and blue sky cools everything down. Just finished reading Richasrd Schmid's book, Alla Prima, and loved it. So much good advice if it were only easy to do!

Just finished this scene of a gorgeous sunset. We were on our way home from Austin after visiting my daughter and new grandson in Austin when we got caught in a terrible freeway gridlock. We were moving just inches at a time so i decided to make lemonade out of lemons as they say and started snapping pics of the beautiful night sky. I got several wonderful shots to make into paintings and this is the first. The next painting is one I have done before but decided to do again because it looks very much like the country around here in Alabama so am recycling so to speak!

Always trying to stay ahead of the Riverwalk demand. Really love doing these Riverwalk at Night ones--what a good exercise for creating light. I believe they have helped all aspects of my painting to improve. Also like the diversion of skipping around from still life to landscape to genre vingettes like this one--variety is what i love!

I am getting into naming these still lifes. We are back in Alabama at the lake house. So cool and green compared to the Texas that we left. I am missing my little grandson but my son in law is keeping me up to date with photos that i tape to the wall near my easel. Makes me smile as does this new still life!

In this still life I decided to try something that I often see in Carol Marine's work. That is using the colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. In this cvase I used orange and red as the dominant scheme. Its harder to make it interesting because you don't have that compliment to make things pop,so the values are very important.
