We are back in Alabama but my first paintings here need to be replacement paintings for the River Art Group gallery. I am two short of my allowed number due to sales and who's complaining? Not me! Thankyou to my friend Robin who allowed me to use her photos of these cows. I just loved this little one's face and used the other photo for the back ground.

Here are two more little (6"x6") paintings heading to the River Art Group Gallery. I am re-stocking so I can have at least 6 small ones to leave there when we take off for Alabama. Its a bit of a balancing act living 6 months in Texas and 6 months in Alabama but we are learning to do it with the least amount of trouble. Summers by the beautiful Lake Guntersville is certainly worth it.

Am finding it weird to do these really small ones again! But at the same time I am remembering how much fun it is to manipulate colors and shapes so quickly. There is a real freedom in knowing that you can try something weird and different because if it is bad, you haven't wasted much time and energy with this small size. And that is why I really love oils--they have a great forgiveness factor!
Wanted to let you al know that you can now go to the Greenhouse Gallery site (www.greenhousegallery.com), click on "accepted entries Salon International 2011" and see all the entries in the show. You can even purchase a painting online before the show opens if you so desire. The show will be April 2 through April 22 here in San Antonio. I will be in Huntsville, Alabama at that time but want to invite you all to see the show if you can. Also if you happen to like Southwest Art magazine--look for my ad in the April issue!

This is a repeat of a painting I recently sold at the River Art Gallery. One of the members requested that I do a similar one for him. I have dedcided that doing repeats offers the opprotunity to improve the original and I do think this one has more drama and color than the first. Carol Marine had a quote on her blog today that I liked--"Don't try to master the painting--just try to enjoy the attempt". That can apply to many endeavors in life!
After I posted this, the client decided he wanted a little more purple here and a little more something else there and I decided to just not sell it to him! I am done with trying to copy a former painting. Its just not worth trying to correct it and create the client's vision of how it should be. It is what it is and the joy is in the attempt!

Two more Riverwalk pieces. These are kind of my bread and butter pieces since I have sold over 70 of these small paintings through the little gallery in downtown La Villita in the two years I have been a member of the River Art Group. It is one of the oldest art associations in the city--formed in the 40's and still going strong. Each artist member is allowed 2 large pieces and 6 small (under 10"x12") to show for 3 months at a time. At the end of the 3 months you must remove the unsold pieces and bring in fresh work. The gallery is always showing new pieces as things are sold and replaced. Sometimes a large piece will sell but the smaller easily packed pieces are of course more popular with the tourists. This year is the 175th anniversary of the Siege of the Alamo so maybe I should do a few more of that subject.
